How does LED light therapy work on the neck and chest?

The neck and chest are uniquely vulnerable to early and accelerated aging from sun exposure. The skin on the neck and chest is thin and has reduced collagen density and elasticity compared to the face, contributing to earlier onset of visible fine lines, crepiness, and pigmentation. [1, 2]

Therabody’s red and infrared LED technology has been previously shown to improve several skin health outcomes on the face, including fine lines and wrinkles and skin tone and texture.

Therabody’s Neck & Chest LED device uses this proven technology and applies it to the delicate skin of the neck and chest.

How was the study conducted?

This 12-week, single-arm study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the Neck & Chest LED device. Measurements were taken at baseline, and participants used the device at home daily for 12 weeks. Outcomes were reassessed at six weeks, and again at 12 weeks.

Who were the participants?

A total of 66 women completed the study. They ranged from 32–65 years old (average age 53), spanned all Fitzpatrick skin types, and had baseline signs of skin aging on the neck, including fine lines, wrinkles, or pigmentation.

During the study, participants avoided using skincare actives on their neck and chest, refrained from using skincare devices or receiving treatments, and didn’t use self-tanning products.

What tools were used to assess outcomes?

The study aimed to understand the benefits of using the device on objective skin outcomes on the neck and chest via cutometer and expert grading. Clinical before-and-after photography was also captured.

Participants also completed questionnaires to assess perceived improvements in skin health, tone, texture, radiance, firmness, smoothness, and overall appearance.
